Trout Fishing In Lake Taupo

The Taupo Fishery is open year-round for both lake and river fishing.  We can arrange a fishing experience to suit your sense of adventure. This could be an evening trolling on the lake with a glass of wine watching the sunset, or a two-day white-water rafting/fly fishing trip down the mighty Tongariro River. If you want to try fly fishing for the first time, we can arrange our guide to give you a fly-casting lesson on the lawn the night before your adventure.

Chalet Eiger works with fishing guides who have years of fishing experience in the North Island and Lake Taupo area, who will specialise in making your adventure happen, and place a high priority on providing excellent service. Top quality fly-fishing and fishing equipment, clothing, food and transport is provided; your guide will collect you from the lodge so all you need to do is enjoy the trip.

The Taupo Fishery is managed as a wild fishery of both rainbow and brown trout. Rainbow trout eggs originally came from California in the 1880’s and were released into the lake where they immediately thrived. Brown trout were introduced a few years later from Wales. The conditions here proved to be perfect for trout and the populations are now self-sustaining. The opportunity to catch truly wild trout on the fly means Taupo is on every serious angler’s list.
